    Hi All,

    My website : global-opportunities dot net ranking well but I would like to see it on top 10 in Google search results, which is on 2nd page at the moment.
    Is there any negative impact of live index page of my website. ;
    http://www.global-opportunities.net/index.html ??

    I have to remove the "index" page from the server??

    Please let me know! I really need your best support now.

    there is no negative impact of this but it is advisable to remove index, home, default ot whatever extension your home page uses. it is done from the server. your website is hosted on windows server or linux server?

    Oh, if the index.html is removed how will the server find the homepage? I really don't know. Someone please help me in this. Actually when we type the domain name, the index.html file gets loaded. (atleast to my knowledge)

    Hello,

    Yes, There will be negative impact If you have the extension of the file name after the domain name. To avoid internal duplication we do 301 permanent redirection from "non-www" to "www" but in this situation we are removing the file extension for the same issue. My advice is wherever the link (Ex: Home link, Company logo, etc... ) is pointing to domain name/index.html within the website go and replace the domain name alone.

    Note: I suggest you to remove the index.html file name and replace the domain name for the internal links only not for the server.

    Thanks

    yes you are absolutely correct. but this happens due to default setting on your server. you can get it changed. ask the person in-charge of your server to do so, it will be done. i hope you knowledge is now refined. if you still don't get it then click on on link within my signature, you will see what you haven't:eek:

    I am not really seeing a problem. I would change all the internal links listed under home from global-opportunities.net/index.html to global-opportunities.net/ or you can just place a /

    I would do a 301 permanent redirect to prevent any confustion with index.html. I doubt that the result will make a dramatic change but do it anyway as part of best practice.

    Not at all necessary if you use Apache as your server.. Depends on what your setup is though..
