I would like to know what percentage of members are actually comfortable with "registering" with a website in order to by a product. Do you feel that giving away your personal information just for the "privilege" of buying something is a good idea? Personally I find the practice disgusting and unless I don't have any other options, I avoid websites who want me to "register" or "become a member" just so I can buy their products and make them rich. Am I the only one who feels that way -or are there others? I'm sure we can all benefit from the answers.
Sorry but registering to purchase a product is the only way to maintain a relation... If a client purchases a tv and wants to check out the status of their shipment, or if customer support needs to contact them regarding their order; things can get a bit crazy if you do not register.
I agree, your going to have my payment information anyway. If I don't trust you than I'm more likely to give you my name and fake email than my credit card or paypal info. Therefore, if I am making the decision to buy from you than there is a certian level of trust that is there. As a consumer I know you need information to charge and ship my product. If I want to buy online I know that you need that. Now the only question is do i want to waste my time adding information to one more field "password" so that i can come back in the future & track my order or buy again. If I am you, an e-tailer, than i want my customer to register so that i have demographic information to base my promos and purchasing on. It also gives me a great source for marketing futures specials / products. I'm with Benjamin here, I think this is a must...
Thanks 5Twenty, I guess I should of mentioned that it's books that I sell. I'm not so sure I want my customers to have to "sign up" or "Login" to buy a book. Like you eluded to, customers already have to fill out their CC info as it is and I'm wondering why burden them with more details. Today online shoppers know that "registering" is just another way of getting more information on them for marketing purposes -and this to me, is kind of creepy. I was just wondering if others felt similarly. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
