Google gives a temporary boost to new and updated pages, and then they drop down to where Google feels they should be... This may be what happened to you.
These fluctuations which I call "mexican wave" eg ~, happen just before or around the time of Gs updates. They normally settle down and you will see a reversal of the really big drops. However if you do not recover then you have to investigate further and try and understand why.So you need to keep a track of things
I'm curious if you actually get people searching for those phrases and coming into your site through search engines at all? - Shawn
I was wondering the same. I have gotten one person for a phrase like "how to share a wired broadband connection between 2 pcs" but optimizing for "share broadband connection" would be much closer to actually getting significant traffic.
Particularly since "How" is an ignored word, along with a bunch of the others("to" and "a" I believe). From what I've seen, optimizing for combinations of the main keywords will usually yield good results for more complex phrases like this, just as well.
is google due an update then? And yes i do get a fair few people coming through using those keywords - all the main keywords are taken, and i cant compete, so i need to target more specific areas. I specified certain phrases i wanted and then as i see that people have used certain keywords to get to my site, i add them to the tracker too!
