If a site appears to have a 5/10 or greater homepage but the internal pages are all 0/10 is the home page likely to have fake PR?

Not necessarily.. There are several sites that have a PR only on homepage.

The inner pages may have been added after the last PR update, hence they're PR0. If you need to check if a site's PR is valid or fake, try rankchecker.

If homepage has 5/10 and inner pages are PR0 then PR is genuine and its not fake.

Maybe internal pages are freshly added but generaly homepage should pass PR to internal pages. Check if this domain has backlinks to justify PR5.

Each and every page has a different PR assigned to it. If the pages are new they may not yet show a number in the toolbar.

not necessary, some PR4/5 site who are established site, have PR0 or unranked for some page...It could explain by the backlink - if they are more relevant link for the homepage or not. It's why when you do your network of link, switch between several page, and several kw.

I have few new sites that in last update received PR5 for the home page before there was any content added, so now all internal pages are indexed , just no PR yet.

If you have good useful content on internal pages then get pr, you can build back links for inner pages.

It's not the number of links, it's the quality of the links. I've seen sites with very few but very powerful links and their PR are able to stick through several PR updates.

each page has their own PR.
to check out fake PR you can try these methods:
    - check with the site:url command
    - check with http://www.archive.org/web/web.php If the website was pointing to a high PR site with a 301 redirect (which makes the fake PR) it will show you the redirected site image.

Dont be worry about it. Only a few websites like twitter has high pagerank for home page and internal pages.
What you said is very common.
