Real estate website

One of my "clients" is a real estate agent. I did the website over a year ago, and am still not having much luck in the search engines. Now I'm gonna attempt a link building strategy but I feel it's a little difficult with real estate sites. Does anyone have any experience/tips for something like this?

My experience is this: set realistic goals and manage client expectations. The real estate market is incredibly saturated and full of competition. There are a lot of big real estate sites already and real estate brokers with big budgets to spend on marketing. Like anything else though, it depends on your target market. I would definitely set my sites on regional and local keywords where you still have some chance to compete. Even in local markets though you have national companies targeting those keywords a lot of the time. If you want to compete nationally in the real estate market, I sure hope you have budget and resources. Show your client who he's competing against and explain to him what it's going to take to rank so they know this isn't a quick or a cheap fix. Be prepared to work hard.

Real estate in my opinion is one of the toughest niches out there. I have competed relatively easy for many target keywords in other niches but in real estate and a few other niches the competition is so high that you will spend a year doing SEO for a keyword that brings in 200 visitors a day. It can be worth it and if you have a budget to work with you should be able to pretty easily rank but if you don't just target geo-specific long-tail keywords.

I'm goona send you a PM as I do some high-end real estate marketing. Trying to compete for Dallas Real Estate is gonna take a while, but other niche areas around dallas are not as difficult. Send me the url and l offer some tips. My real estate agent only focuses on downtown condos, lofts, and houses. If you own a house more than 2 miles from downtown, he wont touch it. He sells a ton of properties and never drives more than a couple of miles to show a house, and he usually walks....

Real estate is a toughie. The advice above is all good.

I do not think it matters what industry it is. SEO is about people battling it out for keywords. Try working with something like "escort london". Now thats hard!

He already has the site he needs help with SEO.

Ask if he can do some PPC while you work on teh link building. I do alot of Mortgage SEO and it's TOUGH competition. you need massive amounts of quality links.

Lots of article submission and press releases too.
