I've just started using AdSense in the past couple weeks. Until this weekend I only had it on a few pages just to get started. The problem is that almost all the ads displayed are so far NOT related to the content on my site I don't see anyone who visits my site every clicking them. I've used the AdSense preview tool for IE to get the URLs and I shortened them to block the entire domain. But I'm still getting ads about IP's, home building, etc. I understand why since my site is about model airplane construction but the AdSense robot doesn't seem to get the difference. So when I've used the 200 lines and will probably need thousands more dot coms blocked what do I do? Thanks, - Paul www.airfieldmodels.com
How long have you had adsense on your site up and running? Sometimes it can take a while for appropriately relevant ads to appear.
I hope that's the problem. I put my first ads up 2 weeks ago but only on a couple pages. This past week I've been working earnest to get the ads on all the pages. My site has over 700 pages so it's a huge project. It's only been the last 5 days maybe that I've gotten ads on a lot of pages. I still have a ways to go but I'm past the halfway mark. It's taking a while because I'm doing other updates to all the pages at the same time. Takes about 10 minutes per page. Sorry for the long-winded response.
Well, I'd give it a couple of months. From personal experience I've noticed that the relevancy of ads can improve after a while. I certainly wouldn't go to the extent of blocking hundreds of domains.
Well, when I did the preview tool it gave me 8 or 10 (however many it is) ads about IP addresses. ??? Welding I can live with because model builders tend to be blue collar guys - a lot of whom have worked in machine shops and such. But the stuff about buying houses really shouldn't be there. Anyway, you sound like I shouldn't worry about it. My only concern is that I think ads deface a site but maintaining mine has started costing enough that I'm noticing so my choices were a "donate" button or ads. But if comes down to $50.00/month (I'll give it six months or so) then it's not worth it.
CafeenMan, you have a nice site with lots of relevant information. Let's hope Google picks up on relevant ads. In case it is needed, you may want to target sections of your content. Read more about adsense section targeting at the link below. https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=23168 I hate to say it, but placing adsense under the left page navigation is not an optimal position for adsense. You would get a significantly higher number of clicks if adsense was inline with the text on your pages.
SnowBird - Yeah, I know I could do better if I had more ads and placed them better. I'm not going to cry about not getting lots of clicks due to that. But more relevant ads will help a lot. Google really likes my site as far as their search engine goes. Try "model aircraft design" or "model airplane engines" or "how to build a wing", "model building tools), etc. I'm currently getting about 1,700 visitors a day. My web stats suck though as they don't let me really dig and see how much of that is bots vs. real people. I'm hoping the ads will help pay for some things for my site such as a real site search tool, a real web stats program and some other things.
put google analytics on your site, in the footer section. you are getting ads for things like learning how to fly, which isn't very relevant to model planes... i would continue to put stuff in the filter, but you'll have to make decisions on what is the least obnoxious. wrt to mfas, start a text file with dates that you put the stuff in the filter... as time goes by, you can start removing the earliest entries, subject to testing of course... mfa'ers stop advertising their crap sites as the url becomes less effective.
did you receive google optimization message in your adsense account saying you may be filtering matching ads ? if yes you need to remove some websites or all of them
Sorry guys. I didn't realize there were more replies. I don't know what google analytics are so I'll have to check into it. I haven't received any optimization messages. I was perusing my site online last night and it seems a lot more relevant. When I work on the site on my computer using a local copy the ads are mostly not relevant. I guess Google knows when the site is live or not or something. I'm going to delete everything I put in the file and start over.
