Someone made a thread about this a week or two ago.

I just wanted to report something. I went after a keyword for a specific product. I was in the top 10 for weeks. It would send me a few hits a day and that would work out to about 100 hits per month. Not much, didn't really work out to much in traffic nor sales.

Probably at the first of september, my page was bumped out of the top 10 ( I don't think it was in the top 20 either). I wasn't building links to it anymore, wasn't doing much with it, so I didn't care. Anyway, yesterday, I got back in the top 10.

I'm not sure what happened since then, but yesterday I got 80 hits for the product search and I've had 2 sales for it today.

I'm not even high up on the top 10, but hmmm, I guess you can make some money with it. As long as they're searching.

It doesn't really matter where you rank, traffic is traffic and if you know what your doing that traffic will always convert into sales

google works in mysterious ways ...

i think a lot of one's success on product name search results depends on the quality of the pages surrounding you in the search results ... lets face it, there can be a lot of top 10 search results that just look spammy / unappealing, so if your search result looks like something real then people will gravitate towards it ... :)

antantnz, That could be a valid reason why people click on mine, while it's in the lower half of the top 10.

    Mine says "Product Name Review"

    Everyone else says,

Product Name Review | Niche Related Crap | Blah blah blah
Product Name | Cost of Product | BONUS bullshat

I don't know why the hell there is more traffic this time around, but I like it!

Yeah brand keywords are good in terms of conversions, but unless they get searched reasonably, there is no point for ranking on them.

I always use product based keywords on my sites. A lot of people will search for reviews about a product before they commit to buying it, so even if you don't rank on the first page of Google for the 'product name review' term you still stand a good chance of making sales.

Doing a review that doesn't contain too much hype but assures the potential customer the product is good is important as well.
