Re-direct basics (301?)

    I have an older Wordpress blog which, I'm going to convert to SEO friendly URL's. How do I set a re-direct for all the old links? Is there an easy way using a wild-card (*)

    Using mod_rewrite. Unfortunately I have not got my head around it yet so can offer no more advice.
