rDNS Question?

I'm just curious, when we run a rDNS check on our IP address it resolves into our web hosting companies address and not our domain.

    For example:

    rdns-**-***-***-**-nl.infiniterdns.com

It returns the following above upon running a rDNS check. How do we get it where it will return our domain name such as www.ourdomain.com upon conducting a rDNS check. We have did this before and currently still are through another provider. They did it by adding PTR records, this company did not add PTR records, but somehow implemented it that way?

I think that you need to discuss that with your current web hosting company.

Rob, I understand that, but what are they doing, are they setting it up across the whole server or what?

Some companies point their IP addresses to default hostnames like xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.company.com
If you want to change the rDNS record, you need to contact the provider.

Yup I think I got it figured out, it's called a generic rDNS record. Now if I'm able to add a PTR record myself, this should fix the issue right? In addition, could you give me an example on how to setup a PTR record. I want to make sure I'm configuring it right under WHM.

No. Creation of the rDNS (PTR) will probably have to be done by your host unless they have delegated control of the IP to you - which is unlikely and can't really be done for a single IP. If the IP is dedicated to your use then they will be able to set one up for you with your own details. If the IP is shared then you will need to live with the way the hosting company have set it up.

Its fine, just as long as the IP has a PTR record your mail won't be rejected :)
