I need to know some information for an upcoming project and would appreciate some feedback from fellow DPers.

How many of you like RC Cars? and

If there was a particular one you really liked what would be the most you would be willing to pay for it?

Well I haven't played with those in years...

But when I was a little kid me and my dad would go to the remote control race car track at the mall and hit up the races. It was a great bonding experience for me and my pops, and something that we both enjoyed.

I would pay the most for whatever car went the fastest.

    YES :D
I'm totally into RC. Planes, cars, whatever.
I've got all sorts of micro/mini cars... Mini-Zs,Mini/Micro-Ts, and a room full of planes :D

I still think the Mini-T RTR is one of the best value "charge it and drive it" RC cars out there.
I cringe when I see people buying supermarket/toystore RC cars for their kids.

That's a very nice collection you got there Kerosene! Do you have any RC cars that can play music? Not any old music but YOUR actual selection of songs?

As tempting as it is, don't buy an "ooh that looks nice" plane to learn on. Because it won't look nice for very long :D

GWS Slowstick. Best plane to learn with. Big, slow, nearly impossible to crash.
You can probably buy the plane from a local hobby shop, and then buy everything else you need from HobbyKing.com.

99% of "all in one" ready to fly planes are junk.
The only ready to fly planes that are any good are from Parkzone. But you won't be able to reuse any of the electronics in other planes.
The Slo-V is very similar to the Slowstick, if you can find one, it would be a good cheap starting point - with barely any building involved.

Then once you can fly, go and buy a FUNJET :D :D

Yep that's it. Have a look on YouTube for some videos of it flying. It's not very exciting, but it will get you used to flying towards yourself, judging distances, wind, etc...
The Slowstick is still one my favourite planes to fly on a still summer afternoon. Very relaxing and FUN (instead of nerve racking like the FunJet). You can also use it for aerial photography/video because it's so slow, and it can carry a fair bit of extra weight.

The most difficult decision you'll have to make is about which radio (TX/transmitter) you buy. You can either buy a really cheap and nasty one, or splash out and buy something like a JR.
If you think you'll end up buying more planes, then make sure you buy a decent transmitter. The TX will be the most expensive thing you buy, but it's something you should get years out of.

Get on RcGroups.com forums - spend a week researching/posting before you even think about buying anything. :D

HobbyKing.com is the best place to buy servos, motors, speed controllers, etc etc. They have ridiculously low prices.
It will seem daunting at first, and the list of the stuff to buy will seem endless (batteries, charger, props, etc..) ... but buying "hobby grade" stuff and building planes yourself will be MUCH MUCH better than buying a toy store "ready to fly" plane.
Prices have dropped massively in the last few years. When I first started flying, a 3 cell LiPo battery was around $120 AUD, they're now about $10-15 from HobbyKing. Servos were $25 each, they're now about $4.
AND the technology has improved. Now is a good time to get into it ... DO IT :D

I went with a Ninco Air Twin Flyer Plane, crashed it into a tree on my first flight, was only flying at 30 MPH but it went so fast.

You didn't listen to my advice did you?! :D :)
Hate to say it, but you probably won't have a lot of fun with that plane. My first few planes were toy store models, and they were all crap. They simply do not fly. I nearly gave up on the entire idea until I saw some people at a local park flying "real" RC planes.

GET A SLOWSTICK! They are so SLOW, and are easily the best plane to learn on.
I know it's probably a bit intimidating working out all the bits and pieces you need to buy, but it will be SO worth it.

i did take your advice but i was in the toy shop looking at starwars busts, and i seen it and it was only £50.00 and its giving me a little fun. It flys well its fast but the control seems to do what i want it to do. Really i just wanted something in the air see if it was something i would like doing. I paint warhammer and play alot of roleplaying games and everything needs to be perfect so if i was to make something odds are i wouldnt fly it :(. Im looking at a RC boat now.
