In your opinion which is better. Raw numbers of traffic (for example the kind generated by Digg front page) or highly targeted organic search traffic from Google, Yahoo, etc. I'm trying to decide if I should focus my effort more on large volumes of traffic by concentrating marketing anywhere and everywhere or should I pin point my niche.
Getting good results from search engine traffic is piss poor. That is, if you are lucky enough to even land high. But doesn't it make sense to focus on as many avenues as you can? The more traffic you get, the more money you make. Providing your site is good, that is.
You will only make money from targeted search traffic. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.
Advertise you site far and wide and by doing so build as many backlinks as you can. This way over time you will improve in the search engines and reap the benefits of your mass advertising campaign. You don't know where your next customer might pop up !
