Rating our own thread should not be allowed

This point must had been raised earlier also. But lets face it, so many new crap threads come up with 5 star ratings.. needless to say the thread starters are rating their own threads.

This thing needs to be stopped. What's say guys?

 

I can't speak for anyone else but I never pay any attention to the thread rating anyway, for exactly the reason you mention. Even if it was changed we could have people going around 5-starring their friends in exactly the same way as they rep them. Probably not worth the effort.

 

But i think for most of us, a rated thread always fetch some undeserved attention.

I'll take your point as a good suggestion. We should not give attention to thread ratings. So, that means this thing should be kicked out from DP.

 

I don't think its possible to disable that the thread starter can't rate his own thread.
(but if Shawn go and code it )

I just consider those stars to be like jewelry the thread starter is wearing, some days they put on more than others. Once I realized you could rate your own thread, I've never looked at those stars as anything else.

If you see a thread that is rated at 5 stars, give it your own rating to knock it down a bit if you think it's not 5 stars. That's about the only thing you can do.

 

Haha... this thread has been rated single star by two members ( Not me )..

 

I say that we just get rid of rating threads; no one pays attention to them and they're easily manipulated (voting for yourself)...

Threads work themselves out naturally:
a good thread will get many replies, keeping it up top...
a bad thread might get removed by mods, or just ignored...

 

I like to rate the threads I don't like so you all will think it was the OP tooting their own horn.

The only reason I actually dislike the rating system is that unranked threads are below ones deemed "terrible" when sorted by rank.

But I do rate threads, more then I give rep Often it's the thread that's worthy of being read over any individual posts...and if more people used the rating system people voting their own threads up won't mean as much.

 

ha ha ha i been a member for 3 years and just found out i can rate my own threads, whoohoo look out everyone, sammie posts are all 5 star

they drop pretty quick though if there rubbish so it doesnt matter

 

In many forums it'll drop if it's top notch as well... a great deal in link sales is lost on page three in only a few hours.
