Hmmm - someone please define VB Host for me. Just about any host CAN host a vBulletin Forum. But will they? And how do they perform? The comments that follow host listings should illustrate how a particular host performs with vBulletin - and in time I will manually prune the list to get rid of host listings that have no comments and seem to be only self serving. The idea here is for vBulletin users to post their opinions on web hosts they have used, positive or negative so that other vbulletin users can find hosts that are good with vb and in general. I dont know how much that clarifies. But Im trying.
That helps a bit Joey, we will see how it develops, but remember there are thousands of web hosting directories out there, this one could be a bit different and show quality only. That would make it worthwhile, while other directories may be bias and turn folks on to bad hosts.
I think the key is the ability of users to actually post their experiences. People can read what other vb owners think of various hosts - its not just 'ads' Its also set by default so that the last listings that received a user review comes up first - so hosts with no reviews will fall to the bottom.
Listing the bad hosts isn't a bad thing if as like joey says, the end user knows the score... I like the idea.
Hi Joey, I´ve got no axe to grind. I´d happily spread a little sunshine. I´m with Futurequest and in the three years I have been with them their customer service has been excellent. They constantly expand their packages by adding new features. After being with them for a period you get renewal bonuses... They are never down, there is a supportive forum and extensive knowledge base. I do not want to register to add this into your list but I appreciate that you are trying to build an unbiased customer reviewed list of hosts. Use my comments above if you like and all the best.
Since I myself dont have personal experience with them - I cant really make the post. The idea is kind of By Users, For Users
What are you implying here? So, I found a new thread and posted and it was #14. I found my host through DP and they've been really good so I was happy to give them a plug. Gosh, I could submit the 3 I use down in New Zealand but I know that's of little value to you lot. Ironically, I now have to ask for recommendation to be removed because mine was a general recommendation and I don't own a vBulletin forum. The two I am involved with belong to a client and one is on it's own server, the other is hosted by Inspire.net.nz Sarah
No you dont - your experience is still valid. It doesnt HAVE to be your experience with a vb forum on a host, but its helpful. A good host is still a good host and maybe a vb user will post for them as well.
That may not be the case. You are not the first person from that area I've heard from. There are certainly others that may locate your comments in the future and find them very useful. Someone with as much experience with hosting there is an asset IMO because it is rare/small, although I think a market just the same.
Keep digging Anthony..I have no problems with JoeyChgo and you can stir it up all you like. I stand by my assesment at the time I viewed the site. It wasn't personal at all and I wouldn't have given anyone the middle finger. I also think that a good well maintained site where hosts are reviewed is a good idea in principal. If anything my post got this thread going again and Joey recieved lots of responses and suggestions which is great. If Anthony wouldn't have been so quick to attack I might have made suggestions myself like having a minimum amount of characters for reviews as this makes sure only those that provide a well written and explanatory review get posted. The sites like this currently get a lot of "Stay away from these guys" posts which help no-one. Calling me names may make you look cool to a few but its pretty obvious to most your agenda. Keep going over the top like a drama queen. We'll see where that gets you.
Well - I've now got neg rep twice now for this thread (naturally from people without enough balls to leave their name) yfs - thats my plan. All listings and posts have to be manually approved which is how I want it so I can maintain integrity in the listings. I am trying to encourage people to not only list hosts, but post written reviews of hosts as well. My reasoning comes from the many "who is a good host" kinda threads, which are an even bigger concern to vBulletin Forum Owners because VB can be a little bit of a resource hog. As an example, I was with Lunarpages. They, IMO are a good host if you have a small board, but once you grow, they kick you off because of the server resources you use once your forum grows. So I made this review Now if I could only get more people to do this instead of giving me bad rep, I might just have something useful to people. .
I left you a rep Joey (only my 4th in the last month) to show there wasn't anything malicious behind my original post. I just think it helps to get a viewpoint from your target audience, someone who would be looking for hosting, not someone selling hosting. Its usually easy to tell if its just someone affiliated with the hoster giving the review and my big point is that to differentiate yourself you have to actively stop those "sales" type reviews. You obviously understand that and thank you for not jumping down my throat and responding in a civil manner Cheers
Anthony, stop beating about the bush and skirting round the subject. Say what you really think. It'll do you good.
