7 is so lightweight and functional to the point I actually installed the 64 bit Ultimate and would have never dreamt of installing 64 bit Vista. Everything seems to work on 7's platform and the security is superb right out of the box. It demolishes Mac and they are obviously afraid: I hate Microsoft, but their commercials are mostly about playing their product up while Mac's have been about playing Microsoft down; I will never buy a product that advertises based on negativity... If you have 7, ctrl-alt-delete your way to your task manager and look at the process list and cpu usage and get ready to smile
Moved from XP Pro 32-bit ...to... 7 Pro 64-bit The OS itself only cost me 30 bucks because I had a .edu email address. Can't beat that. It said it was an upgrade... but it never asked for my old XP cd-key. Which is nice, because I got a full version for 30 bucks. So that put me i a good mood. As for the OS itself, it boots up and shuts down a tiny bit faster than XP. I'm in love with the the new way they did the toolbar. On xp I used to use the quick launch toolbar. So all my programs were 1 click away, now with windows 7, its basically the same thing. I just pin all my programs to the taskbar, but it also groups the running windows of that program into it. Which clears up a ton of clutter. There were ways to do this in XP, but switching between windows was not as elegant and efficient as it is in 7. All my programs so far... have installed without issues. I chose the professional version beause it comes with the XP emulator, which I have yet to try. daemon tools seems to be giving me a little grief, but I just installed power ISO till they fix their bugs. Other than that, all my proggies are running smooth. All in all, I am very please with 7. Will I be going back to XP? nope... Probably just gonna donate my XP license to a family member.
It's about time. I'm getting really interested in upgrading, but not in backing up gigs of stuff and reformatting my HD.
Backing up should not be difficult if you organize your data properly. I highly suggest getting in the habit of storing all your data on an external drive or server if possible. You can easily redirect your my documents folder by right clicking it > properties > Target tab > Move... and select the external drive or server you wish to store your data on. If your just setting it up it will move all the files for you. Also, take a screenshot of the programs installed on your PC. its easy to forget what you have. (Start > Programs > hit the print screen button, open Paint, ctrl-v, save it to your backup) When I upgraded to windows 7 All I had to backup was a few bookmarks. the rest was re-installing programs. Also, windows 7 contains alot more drivers, so you probably wont need any motherboard driver discs to get online. Although you should still update them once you do get online.
Oh the real fun will be when Windows 8 comes out in late 2011 End of Registry?! Same OS on mobile and pc platforms?! (Introduction to true cloud computing ala 1950s?) New security system?! (...every advertisement needs some bs fluff) The race is only going to get more interesting, ladies and gents. The next few years are going to be quite interesting indeed.
I was a beta tester. Now waiting for the Windows 7 Party Pack to arrive, which also contains a Windows 7 Ultimate CD with license.
Personally I love Windows 7 it is ALOT faster then Vista. Also it seems to be compatible with older programs unlike vista.
I am still using Windows XP.. and I am still satisfied on that...But I have already seen the environment of Windows 7 and it looks s great...
wow... suprise voting results ! over 6% voted windows 7 SUCKS ?? To me...windows 7 is much better than vista...and FASTER ! Not perfect..but it is VERY good OS
The best OS so far. My HD footage doesn't lag and everything (for the most part) runs smoothly all with low cpu usage.
like others have said i also say its the best OS ever... very fast and doesn't lag like vista rubbish Microsoft have came back again
