Hey guys. Rate my site design. http://www.zevvo.com DP obviously has a lot of web designers here so please check it out and tell me what you think. This is my first site so give me a break but I still would love to know all of your comments the good bad and the ugly. Again since this is my first design if there are things that i plain out don't have on the site or that are simply all messed up please let me know. Thanks!
Wow...your first design? That's a great start. What did you use to develop the site? Dreamweaver/Photoshop, or did you have access to templates or other open source? Overall, very clean and easy to navigate. Impressive.
Puts on the Simon Cowell hat... Visually - it looks good. Very clean, very direct. The only change I'd make is moving the go daddy 'approved' banner up into your sidebar - it looks kind of silly on it's own down there. Likewise I'd consider either trimming the legal text in the footer, or giving it it's own page. You've got almost as much legal on the main page as you do content... and the login box is kind of ugly compared to the rest of the page. Code-wise, it's bad. The double spacing I'm seeing is probably a result of whatever editor you are using botching the encoding... There's no valid doctype so any CSS is likely hacking around IE being in quirks mode, not that you appear to be using CSS apart from one small section of inlined code. This puts the HTML squarely at the pinnacle of 1997 technology - it's a wee bit out of date. Basically, you have 31k of markup for a page that likely using modern techniques shouldn't even be more than a third of that - you've got a great design, but I'd chuck the code and start over with semantic markup and separation of presentation (CSS) from content (HTML) Seriously this alone: <div align="center"> <div align="center"> <div align="center"> <div align="center"> Code (markup): Is enough to say 'chuck the code and start over'.... While this: <p align="right" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"> <font face="Arial" color="#69AFED" style="font-size: 9pt"> <a style="text-decoration: none" href="http://zevvo.com/zevvo_core/main.php"> <font color="#FF3A00">Members Area</font></a></font><strong class="greeting"></strong><font face="Arial" style="font-size: 9pt" color="#FF3A00"> | </font><a id="loginLink8" href="http://expressionengine.com/forums/member/login/"></a><font face="Arial" color="#69AFED" style="font-size: 9pt"><a style="text-decoration: none" href="http://zevvo.com/signup.php"><font color="#FF3A00">Sign Up Code (markup): Is enough to get you laughed out of most serious site coding discussions.
Why is it 90%+ of the problem posts start out "I'm designing in Dreamweaver" or "I'm working on this wordpress template"? ...and WHY do the majority of posters asking about SEO seem to be stuck at a first grade reading level? Nice lol
