Just watched Gangster Squad yesterday, 8/10. Would've gotten higher except they really overdid the effects at a few points of the movie.
I Rated it the same thing. Toward the middle the movie took a turn (for the better) that I didn't expect and the ending was great on so many levels.
I searched for this movie and found this thread. INCREDIBLE. EXCELSIOR. Please watch it several times.
*** Warning Spoiler *** What is there not to like about the movie? I mean, if anything you could have liked the acting - Levitt was spot on as a young Bruce Willis. The story was also pretty original, not overly technical, and had some tough decisions for the characters to overcome. You may have also missed the irony of young Joe's choice at the end and how it has more than one meaning to complete the story.
Firs-it was absolutely predictable. The acting was just simple as it could be, didn`t believe it at all. The scene of the catching was absurd. A fanatic without any real ideology looking for the guys who can do whatever they want if they make a union and use their power to do something better then looping all over the world. What`s the idea of a movie? And the ending - a complete failure. May be I am wrong. Or may be I am just used to another kind of movies. But I perceived t as a simple blockbuster.
@igor_k I understand you points. The movie was predictable at points, but I think at the right moments. The build up to the "reveals" I think were appropriate that they didn't leave plot gaps or have to fill with random useless scenes. Some movies like the Sixth Sense and Shutter Island do well to leave the final "reveal" to the end. Movies like Looper however that have complexities such as time travel which is already confusing need to "hold the hand of the viewer" so that they don't get totally lost conceptualizing time travel and having to understand the story as well. I think the idea of the movie is different for many people depending on how you see the half empty or half full glass. I took the movie as even if you have all the answers (knowing the future) and know how life plays out, you can still change destiny. The destiny in this case is violence (and selfishness) that causes an endless "loop" of violence even if you are desperately trying to do what's right. Morality plays a big part and when you talk about the "power" they have - the struggle is - what if I can change the past to keep people from being hurt, but I have to hurt people to do it. *** Warning Spoiler *** I knew exactly how the ending was going to play out, but there was that choice factor there that young Joe had and if you put yourself in his shoes would the answer be so obvious. It couldn't be because young Joe knows that he can be a better person and could have a full life ahead of himself, but some jerk from the future shows up and messes his whole life up. Most people would have ran into the field and hunted future Joe down, but that would only cause destiny to play out again (which is what happened with the previous future Joe's).
The last movie I saw was Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 since I just downloaded it. I liked it, I'd say it's 8/10.
The last movie I saw was A good day to die hard (2013) and I will rate it 4/10 cause it was a bullsh*t
I watched Movie 43 a couple of weeks back.. it was terrible! 3/10 (gets 3 as there was some funny parts)
I watched 12 Angry Men (1957) and it was a real class. Though conducted in just one room, its brilliant and I would give it 9.99/10 rating.
I've seen "Flight" with Denzel Washington. I was amazed by DW's performance. I don't know why he did not receive an Oscar. The role of an alcohol addict in his acting was absoulutely perfect and totaly convincing...
