My website is about 3 months old, and came up in google's first page for its keyword within 1 month, since then every time i update the site, add a page or add links (link exchange or directory submission) My site goes from first page to about 400-500 ranking. It stays there for 1-4 weeks and comes back into a higher position, BUT why is it that every time I update I lose my ranking, and how long will this go on.

Your talking about Google right? Sites, especially for the first several months, bounce around quite a bit. Also, some niches have more updates than others, so will bounce about even more. Keep link building and updating, things will settle down.

Thanks, I will continue updating and link building, hope it stabalizes soon, its quite irritating to have your site dissapear for several weeks after every update.

Before getting on to a permanent position or ranking, there will be some fluctuations in ranking like getting to the topmost position or going to some what like last pages. It happens most when we update our pages or when link building is done. Link Building may help to get back to your previous spot in no time.

What you need to do is anchor your position. When a site has a position that is very flimsy, anything can tip it off the map.

I would hire a company to do a blast of SEO, creating thousands of permanent backlinks that will keep you anchored for good. Then, after staying there a year or so, you'll never move ( unless a website with better seo comes along)

that''s what i do with my SEO company anyway :D
