This is your point in a perspective of a webmaster. To regular internet users rankings means nothing.

ranking are poor measure of success is similar as money are poor measure of success

    I disagree with this article.

Rankings are incredibly important. Getting targeted traffic is a factor of high rankings, and targeted traffic = good conversions. This is silly.

I'm shocked that an authority on SEO would write such a bad article.

Jill Whalen has been involved in SEO for more then a decade. Let's just say she is very much a white hat SEO :) I guess when you are not aggressive with link building, you have to tell your clients that rankings don't matter LOL.

I have much respect for Jill Whalen, who wrote this article. The problem I have with the article is this: it's not an either/or situation. She makes some good points, and good webmasters will be implementing a lot of what she says. But, that being said, if you're doing those things, you still need to rank well for your well-researched keywords. Otherwise, you can be technically perfect, yet get no traffic because of your lousy rankings for the keywords you are targeting.

Exactly, the article is plain stupid.. it says ranking doesn't matters if you rank for keywords which aren't searched.. of course thats true but no-one wants to do that lol
