    Pagee rank means the popularity of a website, if you will make many high quality backlinks doing offpage methods like social bookmarking, guest blogging on page rank websites, article directory submission, your websites traffic will increase more traffic means you got many backlinks, hence your paoplarity also increases..:)

    the PR of Directory & the Social Bookmarking Site should be higher than your Home Page's PR.

    as you perform submissions the backlinks on your site increases and so is the pagerank.
