Say i need to rank well on google.co.uk then what is it that is recommended by you to achieve this, or say google.fr for instance.

My point is if i need to target UK or USA, how do i tweak my campaigns to be able to do well in these areas.

Adwords campagains or good ranks with local serps? If second, then get local links from particular domains. Remember to set proper language for your site.

Having a domain extension for that target country helps greatly.

Also... why is there a link to your site below there?... hope that's not a fake signature..

The three major major search engines all give a great deal of weight in their rankings to geo-location, even when the user does not select a country-specific search. So, in order to rank well in any country, you must make your site be seen by the search engines as being geo-located within that country.

The three major search engines all use two factors in determining geo-location: (1) the presence of a Country Code Top Level Domain name ('CC TLD', as in ".co.uk"), and (2) the physical location of the server that hosts your site, based on its IP address. No amount of <meta> tags, links, or incantations will affect this process. So, if you don't have a CC TLD domain name, you have to be hosted on a server in the target country to get the best results. And don't assume that if the hosting company's site has a CC TLD that their servers are located in-country. One particular hosting company in the UK has its servers outside the UK (in the Netherlands, I believe).

We are hosted in US, but we see that we are ranking better in India then in US. Effectively we wish to target US / Australia / UK . Then how does one go about this. We see a shift of upto 15-20 ranks on search engine rankings.

If you're a .com ranking better in India, it could simply be a different mix of competitive factors for those search terms in google.in. There is one other possibility, but applies only to Google (which is why I didn't mention it before). Google says they will also *sometimes* consider the domain name registration data for geo-location, but they do not give specifics. If your domain is registered to an address in India, that would also explain it.

The bottom line remains that you have to consider geo-location in your search engine marketing plans. It may be best to create separate domains with appropriate Country Code TLDs for each target country, although this would require creating unique content for each domain. It may be best to simply focus on making one site as strong as you can and fight your way through the geo-location handicaps where they exist for your target markets. There's no universal solution for every website in this area. You'll have to decide for yourself. Good luck!

cc TLD is the minimum you would want to do.

    Hello everybody!

I have searched in the forum if my question has been answered and I think this post is the most closer to my doubt.

Sorry if the question has been answered, but english is not my mother tongue.

Ok, If I want to be #1 in Google Panamá (for example, but the case is in one specific country), with one keyword, and I host my webpage in the United States, which domain do I have to use to get a good position in that country?

    http://www.mydomain.com.pa

    or...

    http://pa.mydomain.com (a subdomain, cheaper...)

I am talking in short and long term.... and I'm not going to use adwords.

Thank you very much for your answers!
