Ranking on my Country SERP is low

Although my content is targeted towards India, my ranking on www.google.co.in is pretty low compared to google.com

How can i improve my ranking?

Tried submitting to DMOZ (under my country) Its been about 4 months now.. Not been approved yet..

Please help.. Wanna optimize my site in such a way that.. Co.in improves but .com ranking shouldnt drop.

what should be the main reason for it..means different position in google.co.in and google.com.

 

Are you useing domain name for that country. Also some people think hosting site in country helps.

 

We dont have good hosting companies here..

There are a few, but too expensive.

 

Explain the real situation for real advice.

 

Where is your website currently being hosted at, a US based company? Also what domain extension are you using for website?

 

some backlinks from good Indian sites should help.

 

Can get some links from Indian sites that will be good ......
