Does anyone have any ideas why my site would be placing (and has been placing) in the top 10 for my search terms in google but I am on the 3rd and 4th pages in yahoo?

when an SE find a final page and indexes that page
then you get your final SERPS

if however an SE is slower and finds a page that LINKS to THAT final page with a keyword in its anchor text .,..
then that search engine temporarily ranks THAT page on the basis of the few keywords
    >> hence any ranking many pages lower than the ultimate target page

if some time . in the case of Yahoo - months later, all links are fully explored and all pages indexed
then the final page is processed and instead of a SERPS around 50-100 you suddenly may have a SERPS in the top 10 or 20 ...

Yahoo simply lacks the power, resources, brain and $ to be nearly as efficient and accurate as G does its job !!!

in addition of course I safely assume that you help such a weak SE by participating in the Yahoo site explorer and submitted sitemaps etc to Yahoo

Wish I had your problem. I have the opposite problem in that my pages rank very highly in yahoo. I am 1st in about half my terms and otherwise the top 10 in yahool. However in google anywhere from bottom of the first page to the 4th page.

From what I gather yahoo ranks sites higher with changing content and my web site has rotating "featured" items for sale everytime someone visits. Maybe making your content a bit more dynamic might help?

There seems to be a workaround for this, just take a look at
    www.gahooyoogle.com

Either way, your site should pup up in the search results ;)

Yes, quoting myself, their hosting account has been suspended today, erm..
What I nice idea though to open the search results in a frame, and display both Y! and G listings on the same page :)

Both of them have different algorithms, so this is not abnormal.

Pretty Simple... Each of those search engines use different algorithms.

Thats why for google somethings may seem your content is very relative to the search queries where as for Yahoo/MSN it may not be and vice-versa.

This is where the difference creeps in.

    Hope this helped.

    All Success,

Not sure for you, but I came to the conclusion that I can't make everybody happy.

So I picked Google to optimize my text for - 2 years ago.

Last autumn, I quit even looking at Yahoo - where I did "so so".

Lately, I see that I climbed even higher on Yahoo.

So all these years, I've only gone higher on Yahoo, and really just fine-tuned by paragraphs for Google.

    Just my experience.

Are your Yahoo SERPS helped by submitting to Yahoo Directory and paying them $299 or will time be just as effective?

I rank number 1 on google for my target search, but I'm about 4 pages pack on Yahoo last time I checked. I really haven't done much to change this, mostly becuase I have no idea where to start. I've just kept working on my site, while hoping that yahoo will come around:eek:

Based on my experience if your looking for highly competitive words or websites that there is a lot of ones with high pagerank, youll do better finding your site on yahoo.

If there is a way for better ranking in yahoo I will develop websites to meet their algorithm criteria but I can't find it. With google, visitors come naturally after having exchange links with several websites. I never get any visitors from Yahoo and MSN :(
