How hard would it be to rank of the first page for:

    Piano Lessons

How do you figure how hard it would be?

    Thanks for your help.

I would say low to average competition for that keyword if you have any skills in SEM

This tool really doesn't really answer my question.

Well maybe it does... I might just be missing it.

This tool gives you an idea how many people are competing for your targeted term and also average search volume for that term. Ideally you would like to have keyword with high search volume and low competition but usually it's oposite or competition is growing with the search volume

Lets examine the search results for Piano Lessons for a second....

In regular search results from Google 258,000 or so sites rank for that keyword, that means about 258,000 sites are some how relevant to piano lessons. You can view this by the link below...

    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GFRC_enUS203__212&q=Piano+Lessons

Now, interesting enough if we use the allinanchor: search operator to see how many sites use that exact keyword phrase in their anchor text we get 1,690,000 or so sites. That means 1,690,000 sites are using Piano Lessons in atleast one of their incoming links. You can view by the link below...

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4GFRC_enUS203__212&q=allinanchor:Piano+Lessons

The next logical step for you is to review the competitor sites on the first few pages, examine their current search engine optimization, backlinks and quality of content. This information will let you know how difficult it will be, if the first 15 sites have heavy SEO work done and amassed a lot of quality relevant backlinks it won't be as easy as everyone in this thread trys to make it seem.

this is a "medium to hard" keyword, allinanchor:"piano lessons" is showing 1.5 million results (but this number include internal linking structures, and represent the number of pages not the number of sites so don't be scared), example: a site may have 5000 pages and those pages link to the homepage with the anchor "piano lessons".

the other most important difficulty factor is:

"allintitle": and is showing 169 000 "pages" on google, basically you are competing against 160 000 pages (pages which are using "piano lessons" as titles, from my experience this won't be easy, ranking for this keyword will depand on a lot of factors, is it a new website ? if the answer is yes then if "Pianolessons" is in the domain name, your chances are good to achieve good rankings as soon as your out of the sandbox (5 to 9 months if you know what u are doing and do everything else right).

    good luck.

For "Piano Lessons", you need months to achieve the top ranking at Google. Add a lot of high quality backlinks from other websites which related to 'piano'.
