Hi Guys, Ok, if you are interested in some info about raning in Yahoo... then this post may be of some interest for you. Over the last 11 months we had 5 peop;e working and testing yahoo rankings.... it always amazed me how I could rank on page 1 on Google but rank for the samk eyword on page 3 in yahoo...\ I mean it was a little weird... so I got 5 of my online geeks and tested rankings in yahoo... We created 10 websites. Each website (blog) has 5 articles written SEO considered when article was writen The 10 domains had the same keywoerds in it with a number following..eg.. exampledomain1.com, exampledomain2.com... etc only difference was the number in the back. After we had the content up, each of the 5 geeks had 2 blogs to rank... and here is the trick... they were only allowed to use one link building strategy. The results: there is alot of data but I will keep it short here... The best performers were: 1. Links from local websites (websites concetrating on the same subject in same area or in same area) 2. Business directory links... Now the geek who won created 298 links from local sydney websites... where the directory link geek only created 96 links... they ranked right next to eachother on Yahoo search... To keep it short... from our experiments... easiest way to rank in yahoo is to get decent business directory links... We are still calculating the link juice qiuality from each geek to calculate exactly how and why they won, but form the first look at it... our answer is mentioned above... Alem V
I think the following statement will be correct: On google you need quality and on yahoo you need quantity.
The purpose of this test was to find out (what or which) kind of links yahoo prefers... it was always a weird mistery.. some clients websites rank on page 1, while others don't... We will repeat the test again just to make sure that we are right... The merge: yahoo and Bing might have affected the results.. we will see in the next test..
If you have a good meta details and repeated keywords in content, Yahoo ranking can be obtained easily. Yahoo is still one of a meta based search engine pattern.
thanks for sharing your experience. i don't really understand the term 'business directory'..could you explain please..........
Yes Jeff i agree. I can rank top spot yahoo for specific keyphrases easily.. but when it comes to more broad terms then i still think offpage is needed as much as google!! I have managed to rank 3 websites on 1st page Yahoo uk WITHIN 1 WEEK.. but only for very targeted keyphrases.. ie Function Rooms Bolton, or Bolton Nurseries, or , Zumba Lessons.. although the zumba was there 2 days and now it has gone?? But im sure it will be back..hopefully (unless it removed me for some reason?) Anyway.. Yahoo is very onpage seo easy.. but offpage is still required for the more competitive keywords.
business listing means links coming from local submission sites like yellow pages, just dial or any local directory
I think Yahoo has a better understanding that searchers may prefer local results that include immediate access to practical information. We've seen Google re-brand its Local Business Center as Google Places.
Bink is very much like Yahoo.. onpage strong for the easier to rank for keywords.. but it is a bit more competitive than Yahoo.. they are VERY similar in my opinion.. and you will see the same results appear in the same order on both engines. Again i have ranked my 3 main websites at no 1 spot easily on Bing.. Google takes much much longer but they get there with enough backlinks to push them high
