    good point! extremely good point!

i'd be PO'd if i was the site owner and my site got boxed for 7 months! granted, it could possibly end up in a good place down the road.

Hmm I guess if there was a forward AND backward movement this "may" contribute towards the "no backlinks can hurt you" train of though.

If the site moved up from its position and settled back not less than its current position.

Its been stated officially that backlinks cant hurt you, that has to be true, really, else it would be so easy to kill sites, there can be no negative effect in the serps.

I'm not the one who gave you the negative rep but perhaps it wasn't for suggesting doing something for charity but rather for suggesting that there was something wrong with anyone who didn't agree with compulsory weight deductions for charity. One of the problems with that notion is that coop participants may have different views about which charities are worth supporting...

Ok, good point Minstrel. However, I'm not certain its because of what I said, more like I have pi**ed someone off in the past. I seem to get these cowardly negative reps at a constant rate, once a week ish which suggests the person has to wait or use up more reps points before bring me down again.

Yes, there's no doubt that's a common occurrence.

The issue is a bit of a red flag for me. When I read the posts (yours and others) about using members' weights for charitable sites, I was reminded of when I used to work for government institutions... I was compelled first to pay dues to a union I didn't much like and then have the union use part of my dues to (a) call strikes I didn't think were necessary, and (b) contribute to international causes or charities that I disagreed with or felt were either crooked or inefficiently run. I didn't have a choice and couldn't opt out (indeed, there was an attempt to block the "charitable donations" activities on those grounds but Canadian courts, typically, decided to stay out of it and leave it up to the union and its members), so I was left in the position of unwillingly donating some of my money to political causes that I opposed.

Needless to say I was not happy.

Quite correct Ministrel which is why I said in a post that there could be an option on everyones control panel to donate weight to the charity.

sorry, but does adding those backlink numbers from different search engines have any sense? Isn't it possible that they are showing the same results mostly? Or you picked up only unique pages ? :)

By adding them its not that you are getting an accurate count of backlinks but instead you have an arbitrary number that can be used for evaluation without being subject to fluctuations.

    Its just a different tool.

Google should reflect ranking data in about 2 weeks. Their BL numbers don't really matter as internally Google keeps track of that info.

MSN should also reflect ranking data in about 2 weeks.
