Either way would be fine with me... I'm more curious than anything else since everyone seems to think something different.
I like the http:// www . uccf. org/ is not a bad option. However, I have a couple of concerns. 1. have they been contacted? 2. There site hasnt been updated since 2002 3. They probably dont have any inhouse team to handle any real traffic they may get. 4. They have a flash splash page. I fear that alot of the traffic they gain could be wasted. I think it might be wise to contact them. Tell them to adsense up etc..remove the splash page etc. Has anyone done this yet ?
Well, as the effects of the experiment may turn out to be a double edged sword, I'd be wary of using any worthwhile charity as a potential beneficiary. How about "Peace and Love" for the North Korean government website?
I dont see the issue..if it doesnt work nothing has been lost. If it does then..well thats obvious really.
Either way, I bet they get 5-10x more user traffic from people clicking on ad network ads than they do now, so...
Will someone email them and tell them at least to read this thread.. So they can prepare themselves... I figure they might as well get the most they can from 'the experiment'
Nice experiment, have you decided to do just the one with the charity or are you doing a new sub-domain one as well.
Awesome idea. I'm certain it will work, and cool to do for any charity. But, if you repeat it in 12 months after algo's are adjusted, it is a near certainty that it will not have the same results. Please keep in mind that my suggestions for relevancy and some semi-static links is to help us stay ahead of the curve. I'm making these suggestion to make sure the coop is even stronger in 1, 2 and 5 years than it is now.
I actually ranked #2 at google (right behind the official website for that company) for a keyword without actually having any other links pointing to that page but the co-op. Of course, that page was optimized.
design agent, this is a subject-blind experiment, we can't let them know what we're up to! In fact... it's double-blind, we don't know either! mepmepmep. Is the site ranked 1st yet?
well, just out of curiosity, I have now added the website and keword to my rankings list just to see how it does.
Is anyone concerned that this experiment could actually cause this charity site to be put in the sandbox? We've all been there.. where you type in your actual site name and your no-where to be seen on the first page. Sorry to be all doom and gloom, I just thoughts i'd mention it now.. Aside from that I think its a great idea!! I would love this experiment to be run for over 2 months, because there was a time when DP co-op links did seem to effect my serps, but that stopped after using them for 2 months, and i've yet to find out if that was just the algo change, or the pages originally with links on where getting re-crawled and found to no longer show the link. Be great to find out one way or the other!! Are you also going to track this in MSN & Yahoo?
