Thats true, but letting them deal with their own traffic will help them in the long term. A fresh domain might be wise incase you want to give it to them afterwards.
I don't think it will be difficult. What will there be to prove? That links have an effect on google rankings? I thought we knew that. Brandon
I think those are good ideas shawn. Pretty practical too. I started testing on a sub-domain a couple of weeks ago, would be interesting to see how this does vs. my experiment. How about a charity for homeless children/mothers or something along those lines?
People seem to think that dynamic (rotating links) have no affect on Google. As far as the charity one goes... what about http://www.uccf.org/ for the keyword "Charity"? It's a random one that currently ranks #137. Unless anyone has other ideas... looking for something that doesn't already rank well.
Why not just take a little bit of weight from everyone and make it a permanent thing rather than just a test.
I think this is a great idea! Let's see how far this sucker can go with dynamic links! It would be cool if it shot up. They'd probably be wondering how they're getting all the new traffic
I cant see anyone complaining if you give 2-3% of the overall network to a good cause and if anyone complains they should be booted out, lol. or have an option in the control panel to donate some weight to a good cause
Do you know how much money 2-3% of the ad network weight would be worth if used properly? I could make 7 figures a month with that sort of advertising weight. BTW, the charity ad just went live.
Well, you could easily shot gun just about any site for about 2 weeks. After that "honeymoon" it'll be interesting to see if the site can stay up for any given amount of time. The question isn't whether you can get to the top for a given phrase, it's maintaining that position that's the problem and with consistently rotating links, people are finding that they start to drop and have to pump more weight to maintain their positions.
I wont ask if its more or less than 7 figures Anyway, with that in mind I think it would be better making a site/subdomain that generates money which could be donated rather than sending them traffic.
Too much work... I hate making pages/sites. As far as income, people forget I have a real business that has nothing to do with SEO or marketing. http://www.digitalpoint.com/products/
Shawn, you often state that rolling links are worthless for G ranking, is the experiment a method of proving this, or are you hoping to be proved wrong? ;-)
