Having just read through all 30 pages of this I hope that M & Y did drop the sites because of the coop links - that would be awesome. Imagine that I could take any of my opposition out of the serps at will simply by point 10K weight at them. I don't currently use coop on my sites (I'm experimenting with LV atm) but the idea that you can harm a site by pointing weight at it is crazy. As shawn said in one of his posts - being able to inflict damage on other sites is/could be worth much more financially than moving your own a couple of places up the serps.
Can someone tell me what effect this experiment had on Google ranking? I didn't follow this closely enough...
Tops, I haven't really noticed much with Google at all, either way. A few months ago I started to slip with Google so I unleased more weight (used to bring serps back) nothing happened. A few weeks ago it became apparent that Yahoo had invoked some kind of a link threshold PENALTY, so I removed ALL COOP weight from the site. Results so far... 1) Yahoo continues its out and out ban of my site that was, for years, a top 10 runner in Yahoo serps. (noteworthy- I am seeing business . com found everywhere is Yahoo serps) 2) Google hasn't moved either way, still holding steady. I am also noticing that MSN is updating and I am seeing a slow decline. Conclusion- IMO Google- Currently doesn't give a shit about link churning...either way. Yahoo- Has declared war on suspicious link bursts MSN- Is somewhere in the middle
The site went from 140ish to about 14ish in Google with 10,000 weight pointed at it. Although people are saying it has disappeared from Yahoo.
i dunno homer ... give google a bit more time before you make a conclusion. i don't think any search engine owes any site anything. the belief that se's won't penalize you for things going down on the web outside of your site is a bit naive IMO ... this isn't a judicial system here ... this is corp america ... they do what they want and owe you nothing.
Yes it seems when a site is not in the top ten it still has effect with Google. My post was was IMO and my site is and always has been it the top ten of Google's Serps. So when your site is ranked well to begin with I am noticing a lesser (if any ) effect with Google. As far as MSN. This was posted last by Infiniterb: Google: 13 Yahoo: N/A MSN: 2 Right now, I cannot find the 'charity' site in the top 100 of MSN.
oh ... and if you think a se can't ban you for link burst and you run coop or lv "on" the site you desire ranking for ... you need a logic check.
Here in the UK Yahoo and MSN combined provide about 3 percent of all traffic. My sites were dropped from MSN and I didn't notice a thing in the stats.
I get 2000+ search hits a month from MSN, < 200 hits a month from Yahoo and 3000+ from google. To me, MSN is very important. It has climbed from < 5% of the SE traffic to 30%.
Not at all any comparison to Google BUT in the last year Yahoo has grown the most for me...about 10%.
Seems to be for MSN/Yahoo. The charity site has vanished and thats proof enough for me. A scary thought though..
Please forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought the site was www dot uccf dot org/ keyword 'charity'? If so I'm not seeing this in the top 100 of MSN?
It's uccf.org and the keyword is charity. I just checked with the KW Tracker and did a manual check. It's there.
