Ranking #3 for a 500k search/month but seeing minimal traffic?

Im currently ranked #3 for a keyword with 500k local searches/month according to the Google adwords keyword tool. The problem is I am only seeing ~10 visitors from this particular keyword per day. Is there anyway to confirm the accuracy of adwords keyword tool? What are the possible reasons why I am seeing such few visitors?

Also, I have confirmed that I am #3 on all data centers and I have been for the last week or so. TIA

Is it the exact or broad keyword searches?

    good question.

in addition, accordting to stats :
#1 position gets something like 50% of all traffic
#2 position gets ~ 20% of all traffic
#3 position get ~ 10% of all traffic

    think about it!!!

they should do away with broad match when it comes to their keyword tool, it's very misleading for people with limited knowledge of how to market online.

I dont see anything about broad match, can anyone explain exactly how to find an accurate amount of searches per month for a specified keyword?

Use the Google Keyword Tool if you want to do free keyword research. Just Google it.
Type in a keyword phrase or for multiple phrases just type them one per line in the box, enter the captcha and click on get keyword ideas.

They will come back as broad match, just look towards the right of the results and you will see a drop down menu that says broad, just change that to exact and that is the amount of searches for the exact phrase as is.

The keyword may be ranking locally for you but not nationally, meaning it may rank at 3rd for your area (lets say san francisco) but it may have a totally different rank in Chicago. I believe its got something to do with google servers. just a suggestion

Both James and Croxx gave good answers, while you may be ranking locally (or just on your computer!) you might not be ranking nationally for your term, google "SEO Serp" and use their free top 1000 SERP results, I see better accuracy with it

Also check your exact, or even phrase match, as Croxx mentioned. There can be a BIG difference in between the two.
