Hiyya! I've just checked one of my sites for the search term I've been working on. In UK Google I'm ranked no. 2 In Worldwide Google there is no ranking at all. Could anyone please explain to me the different criteria for a country search term ranking compared to a worldwide one. Is it the competition of keyword search terms? (my site is 2 weeks old so is the site sanboxed for that search term on the worldwide search?) Thanks! Debra
World-wide Google search takes into account all sites around the world with little or no reference of what country the sites come from. Country-wide Google looks at the country sites first. So, naturally, world-wide Google will have a much, much higher number of sites competing for the same keyword. This is why, I think, you see a discrepancy. You just see much more competition when you go world-wide.
Yes my site is hosted in the UK, Just seems such a massive discrepency from no. 2 uk listing to a big fat zero on worldwide. Anyway thanks for answering my question! Debra.
Id wait until this update is over, i had top rankings on local & worldwide searches, local searches have dropped & worldwide have dissapeared so Id say now is not a good time to judge it, wait until this update settles imo
Ya, usually where your site is hosted has nothing to do with it. I would give it time though. How long has the site been up? zerohex
I’ve had the same problem but the other way around! I think it was because most of my inbound links where non-UK. I have since worked on it with more inbound UK links and UK results are almost as good now. I’m sure you could do this the other way, get a load of inbound links from sites all over the world. (Im not sure if people believe that googles geo-targeting is affected by the origin of your inbound links but so far from my experience it appears so)
I agree with this too, where your links come from definatly has an affect on weather or not your site appears in the UK only search, I do link building campaigns for many of my clients and the problem is the links I get are from all around the world so many of my clients who have .com domain names find that their listings can disapear on the uk only search, however their listings incraese on the worldwide search.
Hi again, Thanks for the information guys. Yes my site has mostly uk sites as in-bound links, I never realised that this made a difference with the ranking in google. I guess it makes sense and logical. More link building then! Argh my pet hate! Debra.
