I recently opened up vbtemplates.<dot><org> Using an affiliate program from templatemonster. Ive done absolutely no advertising, no seo work and seems to rank very high for keywords "vb templates" Receives about 400 uniques daily. All the traffic comes from Google. one of the main reasons for why the site is ranked so high is because of the keywords in the domain itself. Ranked 4th out of 12,400,000 on Google for Keywords "vb templates" This can just prove that keywords in domains play a major part in the SERPS.
yes ! keywords in domains play a major part in the serps. but 12,400,000 is not very high competition, and i suggest you to keep working with your site to maintain the rainking.
Another (bigger) reason is that there is hardly any competition for this search phrase: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=allintitle:"vb+templates"&btnG=Google+Search The 12,400,000 returned results are pages that have 'vb' or 'templates' somewhere on the page. They aren't all competing for 'vb templates'
True, not all those sites are competing for the keywords, therefore making it easier to gain better rankings, using the allintitle:"vb templates" it came up with only 387 results, not much competition at all.
NOT. Well, it depends what you mean by major. If by this you understand ranking high for a niche where nobody is trying to rank as high as possible, but they only go with the flow, then yes, the kw in the domain name and in the title play a MAJOR part. Otherwise, quite low actually.
If the competition isn't high for a particular keyphrase, then almost any site can rank #1 for their domain name. It think that goes without saying.
Absolutely correct. My domain name is my first and last name .org If I type my first and last name into Google, I come up #1. However, that's no big deal, because Wordtracker shows there are only a paltry 15 web searches daily for my first and last name On the other hand, my website is recording about 1,800 page views daily. And that is a result of the overall SEO (on-page and off-page) of the entire site. You lose nothing, and certainly stand to gain some, with your keywords in your domain name. But your overall work on the website is what will bring you consistent traffic, without just depending on one URL.
Looking at Keyword Discovery, there are six (6) search queries for vb templates though the number should be taken as a relative comparison with other search phrases more than the actual number of searches performed. If you have 400 unique visits a day then you have done a good job especially if many of those visitors actually found you using search engines. Does not matter if you have low number of competitors. What's good is that before newcomers in that niche could ever establish themselves you have made your site's presence felt.
It plays role for only those websites which have very less competition. If you have middle or high competition then you need quality inbound links you cannot stay safe with only keywords in domain names.
