I have a site that has pretty good traffic, about +1000 unique visitors per day, around 80% comes from search engines. It ranks number one for some pretty good keywords. So now to my question: Lets say my site rank number 1 for a keyword phrase like "racing games". Then I want to rank well for the phrase "driving games", when I try to get links, should i make them go to the "main page" that is strong and rank well for "racing games" or should i make a new page that has much content on just "driving games", and make all new links go to that page? What do you guys think is the best thing to do from a SEO point of view. Thanks!
Make sure the new keyword you're targeting is inside the content. Then just start building a lot of backlinks with that keyword in the anchor text. Link building ideas: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=link+building+ideas
You didnt answer his question! I would think its easier to optimise a sub-page for another keyword but am not definately sure wait for someone who has done this to give a definitive asnwer
Both variants are good, but I think that you should make one page for both keywords. Try to make your site rich with both keywords, use first and second time to time and you will get the result. When start link building with both keywords too. Make ten backlinks with "racing games", ten with "driving games, when "racing games" again an so on.
Sub page with the Key phrase you are targeting in the Title, URL and anchor text links to the page you are promoting...
Don't you think that first of all the site must be user-friendly? I don't think that it is very user-friendly to have two sub-pages in your site and place there same games in different names.
For my site, the thing is it already ranks number one for a pretty competitive word, and some similiar words around it. Like for example it ranks nr.1 for racing games, good racing games, pc racing games etc. So I know google realize my page is about racing games and puts me on top for many related keywords. Then lets say driving games is very competitive, then I'm thinking should i make a sub page just for this, or should i "hope" google knows my site is about racing games which also means driving games? So maybe the links should go to the same as "racing games" page? Hehe tricky question huh... interesting to hear everyone's opinion.
As I said, you can edit your "racing games" page content and insert some "driving games" keywords instead of "racing games" and then start building links with "driving games" anchor keyword to the same page. If I were you I would do how I am telling you, but I am not you, so now you should think yourself. Good luck and make good decision.
I too agree with you . Just create a new inner page or subdomain and link to them. I think subdomain have a bit more priority than inner pages. There can be an homepage link to your inner page. It is always better to optimize websites based on their content, haven't you heard " Content is the King" that is the reason why we say it.
I have a different opinion. It is already a cached page so never try to change content it will affect your current rankings for say "racing games" . You will become a double loser. Just create a new inner page or subdomain and link to them. I think subdomain have a bit more priority than inner pages. There can be an homepage link to your inner page. It is always better to optimize websites based on their content, haven't you heard " Content is the King" that is the reason why we say it.
Allow me to disagree...Specially when talking about user friendly pages. Some of my students who did target new keywords with inner pages dedicated to those keywords, got better both rankings and avg. time on site and better CTR in adsense also.
well i would suggest creating a new page and then optimizing that for that particular keyword. If you can put some nice content about the new keyword on the old page good , but if this would make the existing page less friendly for the older keyword visitor then its just not worth it. Well this is a logical answer from Search Engine Optimization Point of View. my 2 cents. Anyways you can find more on this here http://www.212articles.com/categories/Search-Engine-Optimization/
