Quick question, I rank in the top 3 for a very competitive keyword in google.com but I rank about 25 for the same page in google.co.uk, anyone know how I can get higher quickly in the UK as this is my main market?
Host the site in the UK, generate more UK inbound links, make sure you have a UK address on the contact page.
Do some directory submissions in UK based sites to get more inbound UK links or do some link building with uk based and listed sites Need help drop me a PM. I'll help ya with that.
uk hosted, quite a few uk based inbound links and a uk address on the contact page. Ok, I'll chase more UK based links but is there any meta tag that I can use to tell google that I'm uk based?
Thanks chaps. read the blog post, very informative, I'll chase .co.uk links, I think that is the best plan.
The major search engines use two common criteria in determining geo-location: (1) the presence of a Country Code Top Level Domain Name, and (2) the physical location of the server that hosts the site based on its IP address. No other factors are considered. No amount of <meta> tags, links, or other HTML mark-up will change your site's country geo-location. At least one (-and-one) UK hosting service has its servers physically located in the Netherlands so you need to check to be sure you're actually being hosted in the UK. There's a tool at http://www.webconfs.com/website-to-country.php that will let you back-check your server's location by its IP address. If your local Google allows you to search for "pages from" a specific country, enter "site:yoursite.com" and check the "pages from" option. If your pages appear in the results, your geo-location is properly set for that country. If not, then Google believes your geo-location is somewhere else.
If you are trying to say that only tld + server location factor into rankings on google.co.uk then that is wrong, is that the point your making?
