Rank 1st page in Yahoo, but 10th in google?

Hi my cricket blog has been up for a little over 2 weeks now. I'm ranking quite highly for some of my key terms, for example: twenty20 / twenty20 cricket - but only in yahoo.

In yahoo i may be on the 1st page for these terms, but around the 10th page in google - why is this??

Google and Yahoo! are very different in how they work. Yahoo! and Live (now Bing) are easy to rank with very little SEO knowledge. Just the basics will get you up in the SERPs.

Google is all about link building. Get the quality links in your niche and you will see success :)

ahh great thanks dude. how long would it take to get a blog like mine, that is updated with around 1 post a day, to rank highly? i am following almost all seo techniques i can with plugins, meta n titles, friendly urls, link building, etc etc..

also despite ranking fairly well in yahoo, im not actually getting too much traffic from them. is that just to do with the keywords im ranked for not being highly searched ones?

Optimize the wrong keywords and you'll likely never see result, select the right keywords will make a huge difference in the amount of traffic your site receives.

Not too many people use Yahoo for search.

You'd get some minimal traffic, but never as much as Google.

I see this asked so many times in this forum! Yahoo and Google are really two different search engines and have different signals in ranking websites.

Your question would be legitimate if Google successfully bought over Yahoo some years back when they were in the crisis.

Not surprising. Yahoo is a pretty easy algorithm to beat. They are based almost solely on the anchor text of your inbound links.

Yahoo analyzes a web site's 'authority' differently that's why you'll get a different result.

Your keyword is very strange, so you can get no. 1 in yahoo search.

    Depends on the niche.

Some parts of the world, like the Far East, use Yahoo more than Google.
