Random tip for making text links with Amazon

This is pretty random and I'm sure lots of people know this already, but I didn't:

If you want to make text links with Amazon, you shouldn't use their option to build text links. The code they give you from that option doesn't come out as a direct link, and that will pay you significantly less - there is a 2.5% bonus for direct sales that come from your link, so you can't get that if you use their default text link option.

However, there's an easy way around this to have text links that give the bonus.

Product links are considered direct links. So go to build links in your account, then click on the build links button for "Product Links" - the first one at the top with the picture in it. Enter the ASIN/ISBN from the page of whatever product you want to link to. It will show a couple of link options to it from different categories, click on the get html button for one.

Now, on the next page, click on "Show" next to Customize Link. Now click in the "Basic Display" button. It will bring up the html for a picture link. Look in the box, and it will have some html code that includes the URL link you want. Copy the amazon referral url that is between this: <a href="URL YOU WANT"><imgblahblahstuffyoudon'tcarebout>

Then just use that link in your html editor like you would for any normal text link you were making. That's a direct link, and it will give you a 2.5% bonus if they buy the product you're linking to. I've confirmed that with a couple of sales - the links I made doing this got the 7.5%, the ones with the default text link builder they have gave 5%.

I actually have one other random question about it that anyone is welcome to answer. Do you still get a commission on items in the "Miscellaneous" category? I don't think the terms of service covered that in the list of categories that give commissions and was just wondering if anyone knew or had ever gotten one.

    Here is one tip:

    www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/<ASIN number here>/<associate ID here>

This is a direct link and it gives you the bonus.

This is the one that I use as a default. It works really well with the Amazon Product Previews Beta.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know about it, but I'm only now starting out with Amazon again.

Their product previews look interesting so I'll give it a shot and see how they perform.

does it work with category links. I know, category links aren't as good, but does it work with them?
