Rand Fishkin of SEOMOZ, after a much needed vacation and a trip to San Marcos has just sent me his reply for some present web directory issues. There is also some comments about bid directories and a personal review given to my directory. Full Text can be found here www.dirsensei.com/blog Enjoy
A great post. I think the issues lie on how a directory owner gains his backlinks, and the quality of the sites a directory owner is linking to. I wonder why he mentioned that peak level site. Perhaps its just an empty directory. He also never said much on bid directories, just content and quality of outbound links again. Nice to see dirsensei got a good review Thanks for the good read.
Not a bad read. I'd like to see their directory list as well. Some of the examples he gave made me laugh though. What is so special about http://www.slco.lib.ut.us it is just a site with links on it, no design or anything that would even make the site attractive. And what about http://www.educationworld.com/? Granted it has a nice pr of 8 but look at those irrelevant siteswides. Comon Rand, I know you can come with something better than this when it comes to quality directories. Let us know when that list is ready. Either way, it was still a good read and job well done.
I particularly like the 51 site-wide links down the column of http://www.educationworld.com/? I am sure none of those are paid...
Well found... This is good example. Now we should ask what's wrong in putting few links to subject related high quality websites? What if all belong to same network? This is also prohibited? Having 2-3 cars is prohibited? or 2-3 houses? Such way of thinking comes directly from comunism. I'm not even suprised after what big SEs did in China.
Nice take but I dont understand why Rand Fishkin has to pussy foot around. Am I wrong to say that Aviva is perceived to be the link pin in the controversy surrounding the commercialisation of PR which Google objects to? If this is so why doesnt he make the point instead of wringing his hands lamely? Secondly whilst I understand nothing about Page Strength isnt there a conflict of interests here and what happened to common sense? Why do we place our trust in these artificial measures of value which allow rogues like the guys at Aviva to exploit for their own ends. All it is, is an effort to raise the bar out of the reach of your average directory master and to exclude the very people we need to transform this industry from the snake oil factory it is currently, into a resource that meets the needs of both the search engines and as well as every day internet users.
Congrats popotalk, that was a very nice interview. I was waiting to hear something more about the bidding directories. !
Thanks everyone and I wish I could shed more to the industry but unfortunately it would be later this year because of busy schedules but in a good way at least we have found a way to connect for a better relationship. Pubcon Conference December. <<< I might go there.
Easily one of the better interviews and a very good read, this part of the interview was interesting and one that is spot on... Look at all the sigs for avivadirectory, is that what Rand on about? Don't avivadirectory big themselves up as an authority when all they have is a high PR very little content but a zillion links pointing into them, this thread being yet another. Love him or hate him Rand is right on the mark. Kudos to the interviewer as well, brilliant read.
That's a bit of a random question? What's that got to do with this subject? fwiw, NO, Page strenght is a waste of time. Back on topic maybe?
I don't think I was off topic. Pagestrength values Aviva highly, which would contradict what the creator of the tool stated. No?
