RAM vs Bandwidth vs Cost for Proxy Hosting

    Hello,

I've seen a lot of proxy hosting offers out there but it seems like they skimp on ram (128/256) in favor of bandwidth. Is the best bet for proxy hosting to just pay $60 a month for 2-4gb of ram and 500gb of bandwidth?

    Thanks,

That would depend on how many proxies you want to host.
More proxies need more RAM (and more CPU) but 1 proxy can eat 500GB or 1GB bandwidth depending on traffic

So I'd say that 128MB-256MB RAM and 500GB bandwidth is a good deal for maybe 2-4 high traffic proxies.

I think CPU is really the larger issue when it comes to Proxies.. Your best bet is really to buy a dedicated server for a proxy site, this way you are not sharing resources with other sites.

Bets thing is a dedicated and use a PHP low-resource script. CGIProxy will suck the life out of your server but it will use less bandwidth. I prefer higher bandwidth usage and less resource usage, but that's just me.
