This may sound like a crazy idea, but here's my thoughts on a way to raise some additional money to go toward security. We have an actual lottery. Look at how much money is made with current lotteries! Each country would have a lottery available for immediate "consideration" for US citizenship, assuming they meet the requirements below. There are only a select number of spots available each year. The lottery is organized and maintained by a small staff at each US embassy where the lottery is allowed. Along with winning "citizenship", they also win a few thousand dollars to get them started in the US. They can only bring one family member with them and that family member must meet the requirements for winning as well. Eligibility Requirements: They must meet a certain age range. They must not have any known criminal offenses (hard to track in some countries). *If they commit a crime in the US they are immediately deported. *They also must submit to wearing a GPS device around their ankle for 2 years. <edit> Also, they would be in a probationary period for 2 years or so, after which they would be given full citizenship. <edit>They must take English and other classes upon acceptance. The Money: All of the money from the lottery goes toward improving our border security (outside of the expenses of running it). In addition: We greatly enhance our security of our borders. We greatly limit entrance into the US, which would increase the desire to take part in the lottery. The lottery is monitored by independent organizations to maintain fairness and stop any improprieties. Your thoughts? Any other crazy ideas of your own?
Bad idea, eh? Come on, you guys must have some thoughts on. I think it would work. We'd charge $10 per ticket and only one ticket per person.
I am not a fan of that idea at all. does this mean that all borders will be closed to losers? does every country in the world have to play?
No, the borders would still be open under normal circumstances. Maybe just not as many entries granted. Only countries that would allow it would play. The idea would be to fund our border security. A few less people would be allowed in, but we could have a better security system, with more agents, cameras, and improved fencing, etc.
Forget lotteries. I think it's a worthwhile idea to create a worldwide border security fund to keep the Americans in.
Spending $200 billion a year in Iraq could easily be used to secure the borders. The borders are being left intentionally open. There is no need to continue to tax (directly or by ponzi scheme) the citizens when the money is already available in the system, it's just being mis-allocated. We have to get out of this mentality that the government can continue to write itself blank checks without any accountability.
Plus a good portion of the enforcement of the border is for the 'war on drugs' get rid of that and you have more $$$ available. Would take money away from the terrorists as well, with the entire lame 'they make $$ from drugs' yet the taliban got rid of much of the poppy feilds from what I remember Either way it would save $$$, free up man power, and 'if' the terrorists make so much money off the illegal drug trade, dry up some of their funds as well.
