Today, I have successfully launched railslist.com, an open source craiglist style classifieds script. It is named as such to reflect the fact that it has been developed using rails. It will be released to open source community today. In the meantime, i would appreciate if you could take time to have a look, play around and let me know any issues. This is a beta release and we will be releasing patches based on your feedback. More features will be added as and when the community responds with their requirements. This is my very first open source release, so please feel free to bombard me with your tips / tricks / warnings etc. Regards www.railslist.com
Good idea but the layout, designs are not so good and you need to move the content into center of the browser (Firefox 3.5), fix it..
Thanks. Thats a good idea. But being an open source, any one can change it after downloading, if that layout doesn't suit them.
I didn't test it... but this is the nicest looking "craigslist" clone I've ever seen. I wouldn't worry about it being to the right/not center... anyone can change that. To me it looks fine off center... can place more "stuff" in empty spaces if desired.
This has "opportunity" written all over it. Questions: * What does the admin look like? * Do you have a version of it where you've actually posted data that we can see, eg: ads? * Any plans on releasing it? (please put me on a list if so)
Traffic is altogether another area, so I wouldn't worry about it now. This is going to be released as Open Source shortly, so my only objective is to ensure that it is usable.
I am working for the Open Source release only. Will be released once I come back from work. Probably in 12 hrs. You can post data in www.railslist.com itself and see for yourself. You can remove your posting using the remove link. Would love to hear your feedback on all aspects (if you have time)
Open source classified script can be downloaded now @ Classified Script. Download, play around and update me. In the mean time, i will set up a forum to make it easier
Thanks DC0ded. Have you had any difficulties during installation?. How did you go?. Would appreciate a feedback. cheers
You need not to be design the site exactly like Craigs. To attract visitors in the initial phases, it should be more attractive and giving something more than CL. Also remove restrictions of no. of ads as you are in opening phase and not receiving millions of ads daily as CL does at least in initial phases. All the best wishes for your site.
Thank you. Its more of a open source classifieds (script), so anyone running this script can remove restrictions. I am shortly releasing updates with HAML templating, so it should be more interesting than it is now. Oh..the script that powers it can be downloaded from http://www.classifiedscript.in
