I was thinking of doing a radio advertisement, I wanted to know if any one has done that, and was it worth it for them to do it. Do people actually go to websites, when they hear it of the radio.
I dont know of any actual research on this though I know it exist. I can say for sure I have not been to a website that I heard on the radio in as long as I can remember.
The question is if they are intersted in the website, would they actually go on it, once they go on their computer.
Lol, me too joshman. I think that may work for a site like mine for myspace codes especailly on one station that a lot of teens listen to.
Yea I think the only way it could work is if you have a very short url such as ebay I always remember one commercial from the radio here in austin and its only cause they repeat the phone number about 50 times. I will never forget 1-800-BARTEND though.
I dunno, I heard a radio add for: free-credit-report-while-consolidating-my-debts-and-increasing-my-penis-size.com on the radio once and I visited it right away Seriously. Even ebay ran radio ads and stopped. I think that says it all.
I think it would really depend on the services your site is offering, your target audience, the URL being easy to remember (as mentioned above), along with the fact that you make enough profit per conversion to cover the cost with a low end response rate. GoDaddy had a very successful radio campaign a while ago which brought in a lot of business becuase they were advertising a promo code, so it has worked before. IMO you would really need to factor all of these variables to determine if it would be worth the money (and it is very expensive). I don't know your site, so I couldn't tell you whether I think it would be a sound investment or not. BTW, if you are seriously considering going through with this, I know someone who works for a clear channel radio in Phoenix if you want a good deal on a package.
I have used radio many times for my offline business but have not tried online as of yet. The main points to remember are frequency of your ad and easy to remember for the listener. Make sure you domain name is very easy to remember and buy as many placements as you can. People need to hear the ad on average 4 - 6 times before they do anything. Good Luck...
Actually radio advertising is very effective if the offer/site is matched to the audience you are trying to reach. The idea is to market things were people lease expect to see of hear them this way it is more memorable. Your ad will standout more on a 30 second radio spot then on a search engine with 100 other results of the same. You are better off trying to target your sites geographically if advertising on the radio. You don't know until you try. Mike
Though I've always wanted to jump into offline marketing more, I haven't thought it to be practical unless it was something my audience could put it in their pocket to look at later. Online, you just need them to click. Offline you need to grab their attention, make them remember your sites name, want to go, remember to go, fire up their computer, visit your site.
I doubt that radio advertising is very successful. In addition to the fact that people need to remember the URL (as opposed to just clicking on it), most listeners are usually driving, which makes it difficult or impossible for them to write down a URL - even if they wanted to. There have been many times that I've heard a radio advertisment for something I'm interested in, and thought "I need to remember that URL". But I never do... Sam
Depends of course on who you are targeting, but one option to look at is to determine the radio station that is most often listened to during working hours. 9 to 5. Office workers are at their computers and many workplaces have the radio tuned to a light rock station or something similar. If thats the audience you want to reach then have your radio spots run during those hours. Hit coffee break and lunch times. Office workers will often take their break at their desk and surf sites like ebaums and other humor vid sites to pass teh time. Probably stay away from peak driving times. 7am to 9:30 am and 4:30pm to 6 pm. I too, never remember the website I heard about while driving, even ones with simple good names. Unless you plan on running the ad over a longer period of time (week or more). If a listener hears it a few times over a few days they may remember once they get to thier computer. Talk fast. It gets their attention and makes them listen. Repeat the domain name a couple times in the ad. Say some thing like "blah, blah, blah at easytorememberdomain.com. That's easytorememberdomain.com" NO HYPHENS IN YOUR DOMAIN!!! And if its a .net expect to loose some typein traffic to the .com Many radio staions have a "cool website of the day". Find out how to get a free plug on this. Has to be a worthwhile and interesting site for them to bother with your site.
