have you checked out the latest dmoz blog post? http://blog.dmoz.org/2009/05/04/r-e-s-p-e-c-t-for-dmoz/
3. DMOZ might get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T if DMOZ gave anyone else some respect. It is near impossible to get added, personally, I feel your desperate plea is rather lame. Here's an idea, maybe earn some respect by adding quality sites to your directory. Posted at 11:42AM on May 5th 2009 by Jim i found that quote rather interesting. I personally have never used dmoz, so cant' say one way or the other. but, based on that comment, it makes me think there are some issues.
DMOZ deserves no respect until they find a better system of inclusion of both editors and site submissions, and until they end the corruption that is rampant. Examples of corruption: http://www.corruptdmozeditor.com/ http://www.shoemoney.com/2007/08/26/dmoz-extortion/ http://www.getafreelancer.com/projects/search.php?keyword=dmoz http://www.mistersoft.org/freelanci...Link-Building-DMOZ-listing-needed-428778.html And the above are just a few examples...I could list hundreds. DMOZ is nothing more than the skid marks in the underwear of the Internet.
The only people who respect DMOZ are the ones who became editors, so that their own site(s) could get included.
The only people who seem to not respect DMOZ are webmasters whinging about *their* site not getting listed. I am sure markrod will remind us that DMOZ is not a listing service for webmasters.
I know a bit about these two. The first ones a spoof and not proof. For the second one, shoemoney was exposed as having made that up as a link baiting exercise (as you linked to him, it obviously worked)
"Everybody loves Google, everybody loves Wikipedia " That is simply the furthest thing from the truth...
The editor approval process is part of the problem, that's for sure. But it's not the only one. The general public haven't heard of Dmoz. They don't have a shiny new logo, they get no news coverage, and they're not rolling out new features all the time. You can't sign in as a user and access your favourite categories, you can't order results by date or website age, or by your own personal ratings. You can't do anything slick with it. I suspect the technology behind Dmoz is part of what has it stuck in the past.
I have a ton of respect for DMOZ - My site was added on my first try Its only sends me a few visitors but I like it more for bragging rights and of course it helps when selling a site thats already listed.
Dmoz seems to be very important when I was not knowing SEO or Net in much depth but now I can surely say that inclusion is not that much important in it...if you can manage to do it then its good but no then its best...
