Is anyone familiar with r-e-f-e-r-e-r.com I've a lot of referred traffic(if it real people) from them. What exactly it is and what it does, I can only pick it up in one of those stats plugin its doesn't show up in google analytic which is why I'm worried.

Same here, It is called Log spam or referer spam
It basically sends you a http request with the refer set to R-E-F-E-R-E-R.com (this is easily spoofed)

This is a technique to "advertise" a website to web administrators, because they frequently check the logs of their website, and they see 100~ hits from a url they tend to click the link to check it out, then they bomb you with advertisement.

As far as i can tell, R-E-F-E-R-E-R.com is advertising SemRush and Whorush.

You can read more about it here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referer_spam

    tbh it's sort of genius...

Thanks I've tried to block the ip address hope its work they are pretty annoying especially since they have no real value. From your link its also say you can link back without you even knowing

If you are annoyed by the referring domains in google analytics you could filter the domain out, so that they do not get included in your stats, Not exactly sure how to do that, but consult the documentation or just mess around until it makes sense usually works.

If you have a stat software that is publicly available(no password protection) and that have active links(<a hrefs="refering domain">'s ) then they could potentially create a backlink on your domain without you knowing.

I am not just getting alot of traffic from it, but also getting their name showing up in keywords under awstats.

As long as it isnt damaging to my site, I am happy.
