I plan to quit my job and work from Home? I am an SEO, Blogger by passion. Wanna take this up full time.?

To be a successful entrepreneur (An all round Webmaster) what are the web technologies I need to acquire to start freelance work full time. To start with I am learning HTML, CSS.. (and then what else to grow in this field)?

Again in Web Field, there are 2 aspects - Doing Web Design (Graphics like template and Logo Header Design etc) and the Second (Coding, HTML, CSS etc). I want to do the latter as I am not a design person.

Sticking on the client side and the future of web development I would move onto learn Javascript and some of it's libraries like jQuery. If your looking to do server side programming I would look at PHP/MySQL and eventually incorporating that into the Javascript and learn AJAX (jQuery does a good job at doing this for you).

    Good Luck!

well you need to step into the entrepreneurial mind set. Stop thinking like an employee new training will definetly help but the most important thing besides being able to provide a good service wich is what you are doing is to know how to get your name out.

lets say you spent the next year becoming the best HTML CSS person in the world but if no one knows who you are and how to contct you. Its all for nothing so learn how to market yourself or hope that you are so dam good you get word of mouth referalls

I don't think c++ is necessary if it's a little away from web design.

    Client side

HTML, CSS, javascript, and jQuery as Purdy has pointed out.

    Server side

    PHP + mySQL

And others, photoshop, xml, Google API, ...

Mate, now-a-days you can learn stuff in server side and develop something awesome. As HTML, CSS are not the only languages. I suggest, go ahead and learn some more, PHP, jQuery and develop something.

Thanks a lot friends. That really encourages me to start something on my own. Ofocurce I am not going to be some kind of a book worm and learn things. I am looking at learning and practically putting things to work on my websites itself.

All my sites are based on wordpress. Is PHP knowledge enough for wordpress theme handling and tweaks or slight modifications?

Yeah once I am really confident I will market myself. Just taking time off from Jobs and looking to start something on my own and see how it goes for at least a year before I can say I will stick on with this.

To begin with I will perfect the Client side

    • CSS
    • HTML
    • Java Script
    • Jquery

and then head on to server side scripting.

Consider offering your services in software production, there are not enough programmers specialising in niche markets
    Good luck

if you are planning to be the coder, you will need the designer first.
Look for the PSD template, then coded it to HTML
    It's not that difficult

Well quitting your full time job is not an easy decision but as long as you are dedicated on earning tons of money, first you must study all the possibilities because you might start at a wrong end

I think your going about this all wrong. I am learning html/css and leave for the Air Force (U.S. Military since your from India). I plan to leave html/css and dabbling in Javascript in 1 year roughly to become very good at it. I then plan on moving to javascript to become great at it where I'm going to learn php at the same time (2-3 years to learn all 4 languages and probably will dabble in other things) C++ I think is for designing and coding games so you can create functions. I would not quit your job, but it's probably different for me since I'm 21. You might be older and feeling you need a change. I plan after I get out of the Air Force I might be doing well enough where I don't need another 4 year contract to keep my steady as I go.

I'd really wait on quitting your job when your trying to conquer an entire mountain. I would learn the basics of html then css. Then after that learn how to combine them and create sites.
You can't learn to climb a mountain in a day, but you might make it to the top of a hill in a day. Start small when your doing something that can be very tricky.

See I have a back up plan. Which I suggest you get.

If you can't cut 80 hour weeks then I'd suggest being careful of starting out. It requires so much time to start out. I'd work a 40 hour week then do 40 hours of your business.

    My plan:
    1. 40 hour work week in the military
    2. 20 hours a week going to school part time while I'm in (free school mine as well know what I mean) the military, to get my degree in the Fitness/Health field
    3. 10-20 hours html/css to start out with and 10-20 hours dancing/working out. This would be my free time to do w/e I want.

You don't have to listen to me, but the risks are high when you don't have a job. Especially if you don't have enough money to cover you for 2-3 years to let yourself learn over time and get it all set up. Portfolios can almost mean nothing nowadays if you don't have years of experience.

Could someone explain C++ to me am I right about it or is it something totally different?
