How long do you have to stay on the Zyban, Palespyder? And yes, you are doing great. They say the first 36 hours are the hardest until the evil chemicals leave your system, don´t they? You are over the hump.

e10, you stay on for 7 weeks

1 pill a day for first and last 3 days and 2 pills a day for the 6 weeks between. You do what they call a ramp up, you don't quit until you have been taking them for 10 days so that you get a good supply of Zyban in your system. I screwed up and quit after the first three days, but, I am holding strong.

Insomnia was my main side affect as I was always (and still am) a grumpy snappy bastard. I gave up caffeine as nicotine counteracts caffeine (ones an upper others a downer) which helped a bit but still found myself waking up at 4AM for a month or so. If I gave up beer, vodka and wine I might even be semi healthy.

I've suggested this site before on DP http://www.whyquit.com/ it has some scarey but very informative info there, and lots of advice about side effects, cold turkey and actual facts about why stuff happens. I did find myself agreeing with a load of shit I read there.

I gave up for a year once. I got fat as a puggy and missed cigs every day of that year. The features of my face were like a scattering of raisins in the centre of a cloutie dumpling. I could have stayed off the fags and would have lost the weight soon enough but like Mella, I caved at New Year. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I would have been nearly 15 years without fags by now if I´d stuck it out.

    You stick to it PS.

Okay, I´m going to read about this Zyban a bit more and maybe give quitting one more try.

Mella? Are you up for it?

Yeh babe. I really wanna quit.

We should set up a DP quit smoking thingy, and when we are feeling at our wit's end and ready to reach for the packet of ciggies, all support each other and keep each other going. :D

I quit about a year ago, I have the odd one when I’m drunk enough not to remember  , but apart from that I never get the urge to have one. :D

How I did it: Each time you crave a fag imagine the person you hate / despise / disgust / feel sick just looking at, being smug that you failed. It kills you to put an ‘I couldn’t care less’ face on when all you feel like doing is ramming a keyboard down their neck... but it’s worth it in the end. :p :p

Okay you go find out what you can about zyban. I´ll do the same and we can meet back here in a day or so, swap notes, see how PS is getting on and pick a day to stop.

We need to think of a forfeit should any of us cave in.

I stopped after 15yrs, 3 months ago, went cold turkey, ate loads...still hanging in there though...Wifey also stopped at the same time...but she has started again !

She doesn't smoke around me though !!!

Wifey used patches, but decided to stop using them and that's when her problems started, she neede to be weened off slowley !!

I think that as long as you get your 'head' around the fact that you want to stop smoking then you will be able to do it !

Hardest thing I have ever done, and so far not a day goes by when I don't think about going to the shop and just having one and throwing the rest of the packet away...

Its also a lot harder if you go to the Pub. There was a huge percentage of people that quit here when the smoking ban went into effect mostly because it was in the winter and being outside with your pint was enough of a reason for some people.

I'm not sure if that will stick now that the warm weather is back ;)

It also probably applies a bit more to the Euronaughts on the forum as its more a part of our culture.

I'm not sure if there is the same issue in the US or not

I was a heavy smoker for years and then tried many techniques to try and give up without success. In the end it was when my 10 year old boy said "I don't want you to die from cigarettes, Daddy" that I packed up immediately and never smoked again.

Well that works for me, number one son, is two soon and I want to be around a bit longer, so if stamping out the fags help - then thats what I'd do (have done !)

No better incentive in the world !

I work in a pub in Holland where you cannot see 2 feet in front of you due to the smoke... so quitting smoking right now will be a nightmare. :(

Good plan, Stan. I'll see what I can find out about Zyban.. & anyone reading this help us come up with a forfeit! :)

    ROTFL... that is SERIOUS leverage!!!

Similar for me, though I used NLP and hypnosis to bolster resolve and deal with withdrawal

What is the possible smoking ban situation in Holland? Do they even have the guts to suggest it
