There are several ways to promote your website/s in Google. You can do link building: submit articles to different directories, participate on forums like what you are doing now, do ppc ads etc. It's important that you target the right keywords when promoting your site.
by link building... it's one of the best way. If you can't do it on your own find somebody to do it for you, then you can also try twiiter! then posts blogs about your website too.
Forums I believe is the most easiest way to get instant visitors, however, SE results are always better in the long run.

For me the best way to get good position on google was posting on forum and creating niche profiles on them. Very good results after all.

Lol Rome wasn't built in a day. Unless you got the cash the only way you are going to reach the top of google is with intensive seo and building relative links. Now if you are just looking to get indexed then I would recommend either social bookmarking or forum posting but you should put your website link into your signiture.
