    Hi all,

I'm developing a flash-based tutorial as part of my major project for school that teaches new webmasters how to properly attract traffic to their website and how to profit from their visitors.

I just need three or four people to do a quick survey as part of the research that I'm required to do. Your help would be REALLY appreciated. :)

    1. When you made your first website, were you aware of how to attract traffic to it?
    2. Did you find learning about SEO and monetization frustrating?
    3. Did you know that making money off it was possible?
    4. Was Google AdSense your first monetization method?

    Thanks all!

Hey Ponynugget, I'm the owner of http://www.cashgamers.net. I'll take a shot at your questions:

    1. When you made your first website, were you aware of how to attract traffic to it?

I had a few methods prepared for my site's blog & forum -- I made direct contact with people interested in my niche, I did some article marketing, and I had rudimentary knowledge of SEO.

    2. Did you find learning about SEO and monetization frustrating?

Understanding the whole concept of SEO along with its tenants didn't come off as too difficult as all...anyone who writes quality content and follows basic SEO practices can do well for some search terms. Learning about different methods of monetization was actually pretty fun, and gave me an insight as to how websites in general were making their revenues.

    3. Did you know that making money of it was possible?

Yes, but I had no idea that I'd be making much more than what was needed to pay off the hosting bill. :D

    4. Was Google AdSense your first monetization method?

Yes, and using Commission Junction to produce affiliate sales became a secondary method. I continue to solely utilize these two streams of income for my site's monetization.

    _______

Let me know if you have any other questions that could help you out!

    1. When you made your first website, were you aware of how to attract traffic to it?
I have no idea at all during that time because nobody actually taught me on that. I just jumped into creating a site without even knowing how to design in the first place :D

    2. Did you find learning about SEO and monetization frustrating?
At times...yeah. But it's actually more fun and challenging.

    3. Did you know that making money off it was possible?
Nope. My intention was never on money making in the first place. In fact, I was more interested to learn and discover new things.

    4. Was Google AdSense your first monetization method?

    Yes.

Please don't let school students in on the secret ;)

In all seriousness, here's the answers:

    1. When you made your first website, were you aware of how to attract traffic to it?

Yes but I failed with my first site. I made the mistake most webmasters make, trying to teach people how to make money online when I didn't know how to myself :D

    2. Did you find learning about SEO and monetization frustrating?

Not really. Some tasks can me monotonous but all jobs can be like that.

    3. Did you know that making money off it was possible?

    Absolutely.

    4. Was Google AdSense your first monetization method?

Well I was previously making money on eBay. But in terms of doing websites, I think affiliates/adsense came around the same time.

    Cheers
