    What does Boards mean in terms of Forums.

    Does it mean like the Whole Forum, or like the Forum Sections, or the Threads.

    Or could it mean more than 1?

    I consider board and forum one in the same.

    Microsoft Forums or Microsoft Message Board.

    I consider the subcategories all sectiions within that forum.

    But to each his own.

    Most words like that are often used for multiple parts of a community.

    I use;

    Thread, Topic: For actual topics, like the one you have stated here.
    Posts, Replies: Posts in the above.
    Category: Being the heading of a section which the as forums.
    Forums: Being single, in categories. Also there are sub forums.
    Forum, Community, Board, Message Board: Being an whole forum.

    Thats how I use them. :)

    "Boards" come from the early BBS days "Bulletin Board Systems" when you actually dialed directly into the system. Eventually there was the internet and software packages like UBB (Ultimate Bulletin Board) and wwwthreads were early popular software. Somewhere along those years the word forums took hold. Now it's more desirable to name your site a forum instead of a message board.

    It really depends on the context it's used it. Most commonly it's a synonym for forums.
