I was just wondering, my SEO guy has managed to rank my site fairly well in Google. Now he says there is a monthly payment for him to keep it there.

Is "monthly service" needed? What type of stuff would he be doing for this monthly service? Is monthly stuff just a scam?

You need to ask him, obviously. But sure there is stuff that could legitimately be done. Link building is never over for instance. Helping you create new content for your site and helping with promotion of that and fine tuning that new content so it is more optimized for the SE's etc. Keeping track of what competitors are doing is also an option. But I do feel you need to have the type of relationship where they tell you what they do, for the money you give them.

Good S.E.O. does take a lot of maintenance. Im not sure what this guy is charging you but it would be better over time if you read these forums and learn the very techniques this guy may be charging an arm or leg for.

There is a vast amount of very good and useful info here by people who are very successful in the S.E.O. market. If you have the time you should educate yourself and implement the strategies that others are using.

YOu can post questions and they in most cases will be answered very quickly.

However if you do not have the time to learn, you will probably be forced to pay someone to maintain your rankings if you expect to get good results from them and keep them.

    Just my 2 cents.

getting there is half the battle. STAYING there is another. hence the reason he wants a monthly fee to keep you there.

if its a non competitive sector then TBO there isnt a need to keep paying him imo. to me there are probably some things you can do yourself to keep your site there.

Definitely , regular work is required to maintain the rankings ... so if you dont want yourself to put in the efforts then hiring him on monthly basis should be okie and ofcourse it depends on how much is he charging .

Some words are more competitive than others. Can anyone say what a "fair" price would be.

Or what prices you normally charge if you provide SEO service.

It's probably worth it - but pleasantly ask him for a breakdown of the intended work.

We really can't give prices, because the price would be very dependent on the type of work he intends to do and how tough your market is.
