I recently spoke with a friend of mine and we decided to open a site, pure content. However, this time around I'm being more specific with the domain name. Is it true that if your domain name contains highly searched keywords you have an easier time ranking high for these keywords (since your domain name already contains those keywords)? For example if I opened a site named ParisHilton.com it would probably rank high pretty quickly for searches querying "Paris Hilton". However, if I opened a site that was ParisHiltonSite.com or VirtualParisHilton.com would this rule still apply? I would appreciate any input you can give Thanks so much!
I don't think domain name carries that much weight to help you rank for competitive keywords. I mean u can take e.g of "miserable failure" the site that ranked for this keyword didn't have it at all in its content or anywhere.. But yes its a power of backlinks so the most imp is the anchor text that used in links. They help you in rankings not domain name..
but then doesn't the site link just being written somewhere kind of count as an anchor? Or am I totally not getting it.
One of my sites, badcreditmortgagerefinancerates.com actually ranks pretty darn well for bad credit mortgage. It's really a combination of things in how you get higher rankins. Regardless of your domain, you should be an expert in whatever content you're protraying on your site. Especially if it's an adsense site. Content is king in my view.
Having keywords as a domain is good and does help alot when it comes to ranking, mainly because it is relevant. But that is not all you need, you still need to have good content, anchor text, backlinks, and a site that is optimized correctly for that keyword. If you do that then ranking for your domain name, whatever it may be, should rank pretty high the engines.
Yeah, I know all about content, anchored links etc. I just wanted to know if I should be really picky about the domain name I choose. Thanks a lot everyone!
well hello hello remember that when people type in a search phrase, they usually put a space between their words: for example, dog flu vs. dogflu. I do get a lot of direct type in's though so finding two word domain names that have good search volume could be very beneficial.. Look at the key word tracker here on dp. type in different key phrases with spaces and without and compare those results. What you'll find is the key combo with a space will get higher volume than the same combo without a space between words.
Yes, the domain name is of big importance if you wanna rank quickly. However this doesn't mean you can't be in the sandbox for several months if you're after a high competitive keyphrase. Didier
