Use commas if you're gonna use multiple worded keywords, but then put them after ALL your keywords to be most effective.

Of course the keyword can be more than one word. In fact longer keywords are always better targeted than short general keywords. You have to find the right balance between amount of traffic and how targeted the keyword is. While general keywords will bring you more traffic (if you manage to rank high for them in Google) your conversion won't be as high.
